FMLA - What Every Employer Must Know

Back to entire listing

Employers need to understand new regulations regarding the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). These are the first significant changes to the regulations since FMLA's "final" regulations were issued in 1995 and will affect every employer subject to the law.

The Department of Labor (DOL) published 762 pages that include regulations implementing two new types of military family leave. The new regulations include minor tweaks, major adjustments and wholesale changes to original sections of the FMLA regulations. The result is a mixed bag for employers.

The DOL gave employers only 60 days to implement and comply with the new rules. This webinar will provide an overview of the more significant changes to the regulations and steps toward compliance in managing FMLA leave and the law's required forms.

Presented by: Christine E. Howard, Partner

Christine Howard is a partner in the Atlanta and Tampa offices. She focuses her practice on the defense of employment discrimination, harassment complaints, and wage and hour and benefits litigation. She has successfully handled many dispositive motions, hearings and trials on behalf of employers. In recent years she has defended numerous collective action cases filed on behalf of classes of employees alleging violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act, successfully defeating class certification in each instance. In addition to litigating matters on behalf of employers, Christine conducts workplace investigations, compliance audits and management training. She also counsels employers on the preventive measures they may take to avoid or reduce employment-related claims, including issues arising under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act. Christine has been repeatedly selected as a "Georgia Super Lawyer: Labor and Employment," and for "Employment Litigation: Defense."
